Barefoot Running, The Movie

After seeing the following video bouncing around my Facebook feed the past few days, I finally got down to watching it last night. It is a trailer for the upcoming DVD, Barefoot Running, the Movie, and what a beautiful trailer it is! While I’m a little sad that this is not a documentary on barefoot running as I initially thought, it looks like it will serve as a fantastic introduction to and instructional video on barefoot running! Just seeing the trailer makes me want to kick off my shoes and try running bare.

More information on what will be covered in the DVD, and where to pre-order it, after the jump!

The movie was filmed in Maui, Hawaii and looks like it features a lot of beautiful scenery, as well as a lot of helpful information. If watching people run barefoot in Hawaii doesn’t inspire you, I don’t know what will! Topics to be covered by Barefoot Running, The Movie include “proper running form, technique for different terrain, pad development, connecting with nature, drills, strength work, recovery and even footwear for when you need a shoe.” Although I don’t know if they will choose to highlight specific brands, I’m very curious to see what shoes will be featured by the movie as good barefoot alternatives.

The creators are stars of this movie are barefoot runners, authors, and motivational speakers, Michael Sandler and Jessica Lee. They wrote the book Barefoot Running: How to Run Light and Free by Getting in Touch with the Earth, as well as the upcoming book Barefoot Walking (available March 2013). Michael and Jessica also own RunBare, a “barefoot wellness school [dedicated] to help[ing] people heal injuries, get active again, reconnect with nature, and discover a healthier lifestyle”. The Barefoot Running, The Movie DVD will be released on August 31, 2012 and is available for pre-order here for $19.99 ($10 off of the cover price). Even though I’ve already made the transition to minimalist/barefoot shoes, I am definitely considering picking up a copy. I know I can always use more work on my form!
